Lae'zel Honor Mode Build
Storm Sorcery Vanguard
Lae'zel (Storm Sorcerer)
I picked Lae'zel over Gale since she gets free misty step.
Origin & Identity
- Race / Subrace: Githyanki
- Background: Soldier
Storm Sorcery lets her aoe when necessary.
Class Path
- Main Class: Sorcerer (Storm Sorcery)
- Primary Focus: Elemental Burst & Twinned Haste
Storm Sorcery keeps mobility high and rewards spellcasting near enemies—perfect for a frontliner accustomed to melee range while still embracing ranged nukes.
Ability Scores
We trade Lae'zel's original Strength focus for Charisma-driven spell DCs without sacrificing the Constitution needed to stay upright.
| Ability | Base | Adjustments | Final | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Strength | 8 | +0 | 8 | Strength becomes irrelevant—mage armour and shields replace heavy armour. |
| Dexterity | 14 | +0 | 14 | Pairs with Mage Armour for 16 AC baseline while staying nimble. |
| Constitution | 15 | +1 | 16 | ASI bump keeps concentration checks reliable. |
| Intelligence | 8 | +0 | 8 | Arcane lore checks fall to Gale; Lae'zel focuses on raw power. |
| Wisdom | 10 | +0 | 10 | Preserves passable Wisdom saves against control spells. |
| Charisma | 15 | +2 | 17 | Storm Sorcery scales off Charisma—crucial for spell DCs and Metamagic efficacy. |
Spellbook & Cantrips
Lean into lightning/thunder synergies that reward proximity and repositioning.
Cantrips
- Shocking Grasp — melee zap, usually has high hit/damage on people wearing metal or wet
- Fire Bolt — ranged fire damage, can ignite stuff.
- Ray of Frost — good against fire enemies, can slow people.
- Booming Blade — punishes enemies who chase her after she moves away, good for Scrying Eyes.
Level 1 Spells
- Magic Missile — reliable force damage for finishing high AC targets or hitting a bunch of low hp enemies.
- Shield — reactionary +5 AC keeps her alive when frontline pressure hits.
Storm Sorcery's Tempestuous Magic grants free repositioning after casting leveled spells—perfect for baiting opportunity attacks without provoking.
Combat Tactics
- Mage Amour and Kereska's Favour: Bolts of Doom - 100% update, cast after every rest
- Twinned Magic + Haste on MC and Astarion for most big fights, try to avoid getting knocked down or stunned.
- Mostly use cantrips in smaller fights, big aoi if the opportunity arises.
- Use high level spells in boss fights or big fights

Lae'zel — Level 2
- Spell: Mage Armour — baseline AC boost that frees her from medium armour requirements.
- Metamagic: Careful Spell protects allies caught in AoE, while Twinned Spell doubles single-target control; practice weaving them with Storm Sorcery's free movement.
- Features: Font of Magic fuels early converts; start banking Sorcery Points for quickened burst rounds later.
Lae'zel — Level 3
- Spells: Scorching Ray
- Metamagic: Quickened Spell
Lae'zel - Level 4
- Cantrip: Bone chill - doesn't really matter though, I don't use any of hte remaining ones, get what you feel like
- Spell: Darkness - useful for a few fights. Bard has hold person and Lae'zel will typically be concentrating on haste in big fights, so this choice doesn't matter much either
- Feat: War caster - advantage on con saving throws, makes concentration easier to hold
Lae'zel - Level 5
- Spell: Haste
Lae'zel - Level 6
- Spell: Lightning bolt
Lae'zel - Level 7
- Spell: Ice Storm or Fireball (we already have concentration spell). I took Ice Storm since it helps with cc as well as damage
Lae'zel - Level 8
- Spell: Counterspell
- Feat: Dual Wielder (so we can use 2 staffs)
Lae'zel - Level 9
- Spell: Cone of Cold
Lae'zel - Level 10
- Cantrip: Any
- Spell: Cloudkill or Hold Monster
- Metamagic: Heightened Spell
Lae'zel - Level 11
- Spell: Chain lightning
Lae'zel - Level 12
- Spell: Disintegrate
- Feat: Elemental Adept - Lightning
