Act 3: House of Hope
Step-by-Step Walkthrough
- Now it's time to return to the House of Hope to rescue Hope and kill Raphael. You can use the restoration fountain in between all the fights, so feel free to go all out. Once you kill Raphael, you can't use the fountain anymore.Return to the Devil's Fee and use the portal to enter the House of Hope.
- First things first, for everyone except Astarion, use an elixir of fire resistance. Everything here does burning damage for the most part, so it helps keep damage down. Toggle Astarion's extra damage to psychic or necrotic. Raphael himself has radiant retort and you don't want to accidentally hit him with radiant damage.
- You can start the fight in the bedroom. Just attack Haarlep. Be very careful if you talk to him, there's a path that ends up with you in bed with him and a game over. Just tell him you're here to kill him. It is possible to romance him without dying, but why take the risk lol. Nothing difficult about the fight, you can just annoyingly only hit him once per round. So hit him with Astarion or MC then kill the imps. He drops Helldusk gloves. Might as well equip on Astarion, since he's using the Flawed Helldusk gloves. We start the fight here so we can work our way out from the fountain. That way the fountain is always accessible without having to fight again.
- Hit the button under the painting by the bed, then open the safe to read the book inside. I think Haarlep has the key, otherwise knock or lockpick is fine.
- You can just shoot one of the weirdo debtors outside the room to start the next fight and lose your disguise. From this point on, you'll get in fights with everyone. So feel free to run back and use the fountain between every fight and go crazy on the bad guys.
- Make your way west to the archive, killing everything you see. Then kill the archivist. You MUST rip up your contract, or when you try to leave, you will die in a conversation with Raphael. You can also take the high constitutation necklace, and strength gloves. The necklace is good for MC, gloves we don't really need.
- Now you can head east through middle room to kill those guys on the way. Before following Hope downstairs, you can clear the NE way back to the bedroom. Make sure to use the fountain before going downstairs, that fight is kind of annoying.
- When you get to Hope's prison downstairs, you can sneak in a bit. I would use your strongest spells to kill everyone asap. The beholder guys use annoying mind spells, and the imps use eldritch blast that will push you off the edge, so it's hard to say who is more important to kill. I usually have MC use ranged flourish to start killing a bunch of imps and have Astarion chasing down the beholders. You can also keep 3 people in the original room. Then go start the fight with MC. Have him kill 4 of the imps and then start running back to the first room. Then the beholders will chase you there and you don't have to deal with the terrain.
- Once they are dead, equip the Orphic Hammer and break the 2 crystals to let Hope out. Head back to the fountain and heal. Everything should be dead now except Raphael.
- Raphael Strategy
- Start the fight with Astarion and MC hasted, Shadowheart with spirit guardians (necrotic). Cast before using portal
- In the opening conversation, you can convince Yurgir to join you
- Astarion should destroy the 4 pillars in the room while the other 3 try to kill minions
- You can use MC bonus action to hold monster on Raphael and try and keep him from hurting you while you kill minions
- Hope is another level 12 cleric, so you have 2 healers in the group
- Hope and Shadowheart both have divine intervention, so 2 oh shit buttons. Use Hope's first
- Once the 4 towers are down and the minions dead, just focus Raphael
- I think it's worth it to keep trying to hold monster on Raphael, he can do some damage. Even if he only misses 1 turn and then saves, it's still worth it
- Try to keep Hope alive, we want the reward she gives
- Down comes the claw bitch
- Hope will give you Astarions best in slot gloves after the fight if she's alive. Raphael has some armor, but I don't really use it with any of these builds. Now you can leave once and for all! This was a good time for a long rest and you can respec MC if you want, since he has the constitution necklace, you can put those points in wisdom.
